"Following Wednesday's talk that RWE, the German utility group, was looking at British Energy, the tale doing the rounds yesterday was that RWE had turned its attention to Scottish & Southern Energy, up 36p to £14.56. But analysts were sceptical, pointing out that the energy sector was in demand because the much-feared windfall tax did not materialise in the Budget."
