"Mining giant Xstrata moved up 68p to £39.21 on speculation that talks between Brazilian suitor Vale and Glencore, the Swiss commodity trader that owns 35pc of Xstrata, were close to a successful outcome. The latest rumours suggested that Vale may offer £42 a share for Xstrata."
